A birthday is a time for retrospection
As this earth has hurled me once more round the sun:
A time for taking stock, for mulling over
All the things I have – and haven’t – done.
I haven’t bungeed off the Clifton Bridge
Or swum with dolphins in the Irish Sea:
I don’t think I’m cut out for marathons
And the Northern Lights have still eluded me.
Sod it! I’ve kept good friends, I’ve had some sex,
My family is safe, I’m pleased to say:
My health’s still good, I’ve work, my home’s safe haven
And I balance a full life with time to play.
So looking back at all those things I’ve missed
I’ll settle any day for the ‘fuck-it’ list.
